Description

1976 $2 Doubled Overprint Error

Doubled Print Error Fr. 1935-D $2 1976 Federal Reserve Note. PMG Gem Uncirculated 65 EPQ.
Errors on $2 notes are extremely scarce simply due to the much smaller print runs compared to other denominations. Even scarcer in number, this particular error is one of the most dramatic of all errors. The doubled overprint with almost fully separated serial numbers is instantly eye catching, making it wildly popular with collectors. Since the error is so obvious, these notes were quickly set aside, with nice high grade examples available. Full margins frame the design, but are rarely even due to the likely shift in cutting that accompanied the faulty alignment of the additional third printing. In our 2017 FUN auction, we sold another example from this district in a PMG 64 EPQ holder for $14,100.
