    Excessively Rare "$11" Double Denomination

Fr. 2011-B $10 1950A Federal Reserve Note/$1 Silver Certificate Double Denomination. PMG Choice Extremely Fine 45.
We have auctioned only one other of these $10/$1 double denomination errors previously dating all the way back to our September, 1999 Cincinnati auction. It was the only note depicted on the front of our auction catalogue and the cover background consisted of a Morristown (New Jersey) Daily Record May 10, 1955 newspaper article about how a local man possesses one of these famed error notes. The raw Choice CU piece that crossed our auction block that night realized $28,600 during an entirely different era of paper money collecting. Our current offering is serial number B52760340D and increases the census on page 411 of the second edition of US Error Note Encyclopedia by Stephen M. Sullivan to a meager nine. All of the recorded serial numbers are from one sheet of 18 and each example of this error has a serial number that ends in "0340." Our second and last offering of this error was when we auctioned the massive Taylor Family Collection in February, 2005 in Dallas. The same error note that we auctioned in 1998 was once again participating in our auctions and this time it went for $42,550. There are only four different types of small size double denomination errors with this $10/$1 being easily rarer than two of them and neck and neck with the other type. However, unlike the other three that concern face and backs of Federal Reserve Notes, this double denomination also crosses across paper money types with a FRN face and a Silver Certificate back. Simply, a great error that will be the highlight of any collection that it enters.
