    Description

    HB-UNL EP-95a 9¢ Feuchtwanger Strip Very Fine.
This piece does not actually meet the definition of "Encased Postage Stamps" as seen in Hodder-Bowers, and it was not manufactured by Scovill using Gault's patent. However, these strips have a long history of inclusion in the category of Encased Postage. They were likely produced in New York City for the collector market in the early 1890s. Despite the "title," there is no actual connection between the pieces and the 1830s Dr. Feuchtwanger (of the famous "cent"). The name is used because the eagle and snake motif used on the case are reminiscent of the 1837 Hard Times token design, which was privately issued by Dr. Feuchtwanger. We note a mica lamination at the right, but the three Three Cents stamps are bright and the case is a handsome, natural brown.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
