    Description

Excessively Rare Large Ayer's 12c-One of Only Two Known

HB-41 EP-n/a 12¢ Ayer's Sarsaparilla Extremely Fine. The Large Ayer's 12c piece is unlisted in Friedberg and is listed in the Hodder-Bowers book as unique. This second example is unquestionably genuine, tightly and neatly closed all around, without a trace of a problem or rough spot. The case is a glossy medium brown, absolutely defect free, the mica is clear and essentially perfect, with only the most minor circulation marks on its surface and the stamp is bright and clean. This would be an exceptional piece even were it the relatively common Medium Ayer's variety, but as one of only two known for its number, it's a truly exceptional item.
