HB-235 EP-59 3¢ White the Hatter Extremely Fine. Our grade refers to the degree of wear on the case, as always, and not the overall condition of the piece. In this instance, the case shows almost no wear, retaining approximately 80% of its silvering. The stamp is quite soiled, and the mica has several disturbances, including one fairly bad crack. It appears to us that the case has been opened and re-closed, as there is considerable crimping at the seam. In any event, White the Hatter is one of the rarest Encased Postage merchants, with fewer than two dozen known pieces for all denominations combined. Due to the possible tampering, this piece is offered, "as is" with no return privilege.
