HB-234 EP-30 1¢ White the Hatter Extremely Fine. The back of the case has a beautiful, natural gloss and an even, light tan color. The stamp is nearly fully bright, with no noticeable problems. The mica appears intact at a glance, but closer inspection reveals a small hole through to the stamp at the very bottom and a number of small cracks elsewhere. White the Hatter is one of the rarest issuers of Encased Postage, with fewer than two dozen pieces known in total for the 1¢ through 10¢ denominations... and nothing higher. Both the 5¢ and 10¢ denominations are represented by only two known examples; about a half-dozen Three Centers are known. This 1¢ denomination is the "common" piece, with about ten known.
