Very Rare and Essentially Perfect S. Steinfeld

HB-221 EP-27 1c S. Steinfeld Choice About New. This cataloger has been active in Encased Postage for over 30 years, and this is only the fifth Steinfeld that I have had the pleasure of personally examining. It's one of the rarest of the 34 merchants, represented by only about a dozen known pieces. This 1c denomination is the only collectable denomination, with about ten known. The 5c, 10c and 12c are unique to our knowledge. This piece is about as flawless as any encasement can be. The stamp is beautifully bright, the mica is essentially perfect, and the case shows not a trace of wear, with well over half its original silvering remaining. Certainly in the running for finest known.
