    Rare S. Steinfeld Encasement

    HB-221 EP-27 1¢ S. Steinfeld Extremely Fine.
From our May 2007 sale where it was described "A very attractive example of one of the rarest merchants. The case is a problem-free medium brown color, the mica is essentially perfect and the stamp remains bright and attractive. This 1¢ is the only collectable denomination for Steinfeld; no 3¢ is known, and the 5¢, 10¢ and 12¢ are all considered to be unique. Only about 20 examples of this merchant are known in all grades combined, and this solid problem-free piece is certainly more than halfway up the census for condition." At that time this piece brought just over $4300.
