HB-219 EP-130 10¢ John Shillito & Co. Extremely Fine. According the the Hodder-Bowers reference, this 10¢ Shillito is one of fewer then ten known examples. Shillito ordered only 1¢ through 12¢ denominations from Gault. The 1¢ and 12¢ are excessively rare. The 3¢ is also quite scarce, though more common than this rare Ten Cent. Only the 5¢ Shillito is seen with any frequency. There are about 40 Five Cent examples known. This 10¢ piece is a real beauty, with a glassy, natural medium-brown case that is totally flawless. The stamp is bright and well centered, and the mica is essentially perfect. It not only lacks circulation-caused defects, but it is free from the normal natural defects found in mica. This piece is far superior to the Stack's June 2004 example, which had been cleaned and polished as well as having a problem mica. One of the finest Ten Cent Shillitos known.
