    Rare Sands' Ale 5¢

HB-207 EP-90 5¢ Sands' Ale Extremely Fine. This is the first Sands' Ale that Heritage-CAA has ever offered, and it's one of the finest known of the fewer than ten pieces from this merchant to have been traced. The Bowers-Hodder book considers Sands' Ale to be the second scarcest merchant, behind only Miles. The massive collection sold by Stack's in 2004, and considered to be the best ever formed, contained three examples: one 5¢ and two 10¢. This piece has a lovely problem-free case that is a nice, even light color. The stamp is 100% fully bright, and the mica problem-free save for a single, short craze line from the "E" of postage down to the top of Jefferson's head. To our best knowledge, this is the second finest 5¢ Sand's Ale known to exist. Anyone desiring a 34-piece merchant set should not let this encasement slip his or her grasp; it could well be decades before the appearance of another.
