    Possibly Unique Thirty Cent Lord & Taylor

    HB-174 EP-182 30¢ Lord & Taylor Choice Extremely Fine. In the Hodder-Bowers book, the authors point out that this 30¢ Lord & Taylor is even rarer than the 90¢. They comment, "The great rarity from this commissioner is the 30¢ denomination, of which only one or two examples are known." They go on to say, "[We] know of only one complete collection of Lord & Taylor encasements." The complete collection was sold by Stack's in June of 2004, where this piece was acquired by our consignor as Lot 552. The case is a natural, glossy light mahogany, utterly defect-free and with considerable claim to the About New grade. The stamp is lightly faded but well centered, with the orange color remaining strong. The mica is as perfect as these are ever seen. An extraordinary rarity that should certainly realize...
