    HB-122 EP-77 5¢ Gage Brother & Drake (Tremont House) Very Fine.
    John Gault's largest customer for his encased stamps west of the Hudson River was the hotel, Tremont House owned by David & George Gage and John Drake. Abraham Lincoln stayed at the Tremont House a week before his inauguration before heading on to Washington, DC. This is the most common piece for this merchant and is listed by Reed as R-2, 51-100 known. The mica has some crazing around the edges and a large crack from the left side to near the center of the stamp. The case is golden brown with some silvering around the lettering.
