    Description

    T8 $50 1861 Cr. 15.
Hoyer & Ludwig printed over 123,000 of this design. On this variety the word "for" is handwritten. The note also has a curious blue "C" rubber stamp that some authorities have speculated may have been an early means of indicating that the note had been cancelled. This note's provenance begins with John Sanderson, son-in-law of John J. Ford, Jr. Sanderson sold his collection via an R.M. Smythe auction in 1999, where Mr. Hilton purchased it for $187. PCGS grades this note About New 53.
