    T7 $100 1861 Cr. UNL.
The July 25, 1861 $100 Type 7 is scarce and difficult to obtain in the highest grades. After the Federal government seized the Montgomery plates in New York, the demand for more paper money led to the printing of lithographed notes by Hoyer & Ludwig. These second series notes did not pay interest. The circulation increase made it impossible for the Register and the Treasurer to actually sign all the notes. This led to substitute officials or "for the" signers. At the center, the mythological mother and daughter Ceres and Proserpina fly through the air with agricultural tools and a brimming cornucopia. A framed oval portrait of Washington appears at lower left. Written "for" and on thin paper. This note was acquired at an R.M. Smythe sale in June 1999 for $1430. PCGS grades this note Apparent About New 50, citing mounting remnants on the back corners that have no significant impact on this rare note's desirability.
