DescriptionManuscript Endorsement "Ferdinand Molloy Capt. & ACS" T6 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 6 PMG Uncirculated 62.
This note along with the companion T-5 $100 design were ordered by the Department of Treasury from the New Orleans office of the ABNCo in the aftermath of both ABNCo and National Bank Note Co. production for the Confederacy in New York being permanently terminated in late April, 1861. The New Orleans office, doing business under the name of Southern Bank Note Co., was overwhelmed as it was neither staffed nor equipped to do high volume production and design. Only 5,798 notes of this design were issued before production was halted. The issuing statement on the back reads "Disbursed Sep 22 / 1861 / Ferdinand Molloy / Capt(ain) & A(ssistant) C(ommissary) (of) S(ubsistence)." Captain Molloy was on the staff of General P.G.T. Beauregard. PMG mentions a corner tear that has done its best to hide itself. It certainly has minimal, if any, impact on this note's desirability.
