    T5 $100 1861 PF-1 Cr. 5.
Southern Bank Note Co. (the New Orleans branch of the ABNCo.) started work on these notes soon after Federal officials raided facilities of both ABNCo and National Bank Note Co. in New York in late April, 1861, eliminating those paper money sources for the Confederacy. The undermanned operation struggled to design and print this and the companion $50 note, finally forcing Memminger to seek additional (and usually inferior) printers to keep pace with the surging demand for notes. Ultimately 5,798 of this denomination and the companion $50 were issued. Sometimes known as "First Richmond" issues, deliveries on these two notes were so slow that other lithographed notes done by Hoyer & Ludwig have that distinction. Any opportunity for additional production disappeared when New Orleans fell in late April, 1862. This example saw little circulation and is printed on distinctive red fiber paper.
