    T43 $2 1862 Cr. 338.
In typical Blanton Duncan style, Duncan decided to unilaterally add a green 2 TWO protector tint to the $2s he was printing. After presenting a bill to the Department of the Treasury he was quickly told that the work was not authorized. The Treasury refused to pay the bill and the tint was quickly removed as part of the printing process, but not before about 195,000 notes were issued. The provenance on this note goes all the way back to a scrapbook put together by Raphael Thian in 1887 which, after the passage of about a century and several sales, ended up with Charles Anderson, Jr., who sold the collection to Mr. Hilton in 1998. PCGS grades this note Apparent Very Fine 35, with small repairs.
