    Description

    T32 $5 1861 Cr. 246.
This T32 $5 faces up as very sharp and superior for the assigned grade. As cited, both the T23 $10 and T32 $5 notes from this 1861 enactment were created from an adapted plate. Leggett, Keatinge & Ball, Richmond Va. received plates from the Mechanics Savings Bank, Savannah, Georgia, originally engraved by Bald, Adams & Co., New-York/Bald, Cousland & Co. of Philadelphia to re-engrave and adapt for these attractive and rare types. The vignette and counter structure are the same as on the Savannah plate with updated Confederate titles, obligations, and imprint. At the lower right is a seated blacksmith. Lower left with boy's portrait used on several well known type. Vermillion protector with a "5" at the top center. PCGS graded Fine 15. Well margined and bright. Perfect for the grade, perhaps conservative compared some other T32 notes we have encountered.
