    T24 $10 1861 PF-7 Cr. 161 PMG About Uncirculated 50.
This high quality note was printed by Keatinge & Ball after their partner, Leggett, was forced out of the business due to an alleged relationship with a Union "spy" in Richmond. A portrait of R.M.T. Hunter, Confederate Secretary of State, appears on the left and a vignette of a small child appears on the right. We now know that this vignette is of Reverend Alfred L. Elwyn as a child. Elwyn was a Philadelphia minister and Unionist; it appears that the vignette was simply used for aesthetic reasons. PMG notes two hammer cut cancels that have been sealed unobtrusively on the back. With bold unoxidized orange design elements and strong signatures, this is the finest condition example of this variety that we have offered by nearly 15 points, with many previous offerings being between Very Fine 25 and Very Fine 35 at best.
