Manuscript Endorsement "A.J. Guirot" T4 $50 1861 PF-1 Cr. 4.The penned issued statement on the back reads, "New Orleans May 22 1861 A(nthony) J. Guirot Ass(istant) Treas(urer) C(onfederate) S(tates)." Guirot served the city of New Orleans for a long time before the Confederacy came calling. Guirot's signature can be found on the earlier New Orleans Municipality issues as well. He was in New Orleans until it was captured in the spring of 1862. Guirot would proceed to move his base of operations to Jackson and later Mobile. This example has serial number 335-A, and thus it is a PF-1. This Fricke number was printed on a full sheet that included a $1000, a $500, a $100, and a $50 note with serial numbers 1 through 607. This note is new to the Fricke census. It grades PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20. The Apparent grade is for repairs, which are minor and skillfully executed. They are best seen when the note is "candled" in front of a light source. We had another T4 endorsed by Guirot and with a grade of PCGS VF 25 realize $16,450 last September.
