DescriptionRare Call Certificate 146a Bond and Richmond IDR.
Call Certificate Ball 146a Cr. 109 $1000 Bond Jan. 1, 1863 VF-XF, with internal splits at the fold intersections and minor staining;
Interim Depositary Receipt (Richmond, VA)- $3300 Mar. 19, 1864 Tremmel VA-170 VF, with minor staining.
The Ball 146a is a very rare six-percent call certificate that has a penned $1000 amount and is made payable to "E.C. Elmore Treas. CS." It is signed by Register of the Treasury Robert Tyler. The back has the all-important added penned clause of "Pay to the order of . . . in Notes of Dec. 2nd 1862" and is followed with the signature of E.C. Elmore and his office of "Treasurer C.S." This is in turn followed by a penned "March 18th 1864 Interest paid to date at Richmond" statement by A.L. Watts. The Ball reference mentions that only ten of this number were issued, and therefore the rarity rating is R7+, four to ten extant. The Tremmel VA-170 IDR was issued at the Treasurer's Office and is signed by Treasurer Elmore, who strikes with his pen "Depositary," which is logical since he is the Confederate States Treasurer. A couple of neat items in this lot that originated from the heart of the Confederate States government.
Estimate: $1,000 - $1,500.
