DescriptionFascinating United States Treasury Department Confederate Grouping.
The United States Treasury Department in the early part of the Twentieth Century chose to distribute Confederate notes to Grand Army of the Republic posts throughout the nation for exhibition purposes. The notes which were sent with this 1912 letter with the printed signature of Secretary of the Treasury Franklin MacVeagh are as follows: $5 T36, T37, T53, T60, $10 T30, T52, T59, $20 T20, T58, $50 T57, and $500 T64. The $500 grades Fair and is missing approximately 25% of its paper, the $50 is XF, CC and the other notes grade Good-VG or better with almost all being either cut cancelled or punch out cancelled. This grouping was originally sent to the McPherson Post in Niles, Ohio and would certainly be a welcomed addition to a Confederate collection.
