DescriptionConfederate Quartermaster Album with Notes and Bonds.
A neat album that was a Civil War souvenir for a Yankee soldier as penned on the inside cover, "The blank book in which these relics are fastened was captured in the Quartermaster General's Office in Richmond, Va." The cover also has a large home-made label with the words "Historical Scrapbook" with a Union shield. Most of the pages are headed as "Quartermaster General's Office Richmond, Va" and are requisition forms addressed to the "Honorable Secretary of War." Many of the pages are missing, but what remains after some beginning blank pages is truly interesting (some pages are loose). Twenty-one Confederate notes have been fastened to seven pages, 27 Southern Obsoletes of the war era have been affixed to the next few pages, these are in turn followed by 23 bonds or related material that are for the most part folded and glued in. Next is a blank Soldier's Transportation form on a page by itself, and the album finishes with a rendition of a mosaic with the penned statement that the original mosaic is located in the vestibule of a Roman patrician in Pompeii. Importantly, there is very little duplication of the notes and bonds. Inspection is advised as there will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
