This certificate was issued to B. W. Burnham who deposited $7,500 and would get $5,000 in "New Issue" notes when he redeemed it. "New Issue" notes (the February 17, 1864 issue) were exchanged at a lesser rate for older notes as an attempt to curb inflation. It is signed by Paul E. McEmery as depositary. PCGS Apparent Very Fine 35 due to minor stains and small repaired edge splits at the top and bottom center.
