DescriptionBall 4 Cr. 6A $100 Bond 1861 Fine.
This early Confederate bond was issued from the first capital, Montgomery, Alabama. This bond is signed by Register of the Treasury Alex(ander) B. Clitherall. When the Confederate capital moved to Richmond in July 1861, Clitherall decided to resign and stay in his home state. Therefore Clitherall's signature is only found on the Montgomery issues of the February 28, 1861 bonds. Small internal splits are noticed along with a contemporary repair.
