DescriptionBall 158 Cr. 118 £500 1863 Bond Fine-Very Fine.
A second £500 Erlanger bond with a London & County Bank rubber stamping on the back. A relative of Erlanger burned the remaining bonds in the family's possession thinking that they were worthless paper in the 1960s. This act greatly increased the bonds scarcity. We have now auctioned a paltry three examples of the £500 denomination of this issue and that figure includes both specimens offered tonight. A few pinholes and a couple of small holes at the fold intersections are observed.
