Portrait is of Burton Harrison who became the personal secretary of Jefferson Davis in 1862. He attended the University of Mississippi and graduated from Yale in 1859. Harrison became the secretary and counsel of the New York City Rapid Transit Commission in 1875. He declined President Cleveland's offer of appointment as Assistant Secretary of State in 1893. Our original certificate of authenticity from the late 1980s is included in this lot.
