Description1913 Treasury Department Dispersal Letter with Notes.
The United States Treasury Department in the early part of the Twentieth Century chose to distribute Confederate notes to Grand Army of the Republic posts and libraries throughout the nation for exhibition purposes. Twenty-nine notes are in this lot plus a February 1913 letter with the printed signature of Secretary of the Treasury Franklin MacVeagh. There are eleven $5's, nine $10's, eight $20's, and one $50. There is duplication and all but two notes have been cancelled with the cut-out-cancellation being the most prevalent method. This grouping was originally sent to the Mercantile Library Association in New York. About Good or better. There will be no returns on this lot for any reason.
