    CT22/152E-1 Counterfeit $10 1861.
Not only is this $10 a counterfeit, it is also an error counterfeit variety, with the red guilloche and "X" counter plus the left serial number of 3312 not being printed. This desirable counterfeit error is based on a Samuel Upham woodcut. Other traits of this particular counterfeit are plate letter C, printed signatures, and the printed right serial number of 3312. This variety is also without the grove of pine trees in the background, but it does have the long, distinctive vertical plate break in the center of the note. See A Guide Book of Counterfeit Confederate Currency by George B. Tremmel, where it is rated a Rarity 9, three to four examples known to exist. Fine with approximate half inch top and bottom edge tears plus a missing lower left corner outside of the frame line.
