Rare and Finest T10 $10 PF-15-Unlisted Criswell Variety

Confederate States of America - T10 1861 $10 PF-15, Cr. UNL. PCGS Very Fine 25.
This is a rare $10 T10 variety, and perhaps the finest known example. The thicker bond paper was being phased out by Hoyer & Ludwig which contributed to only a few remaining sheets being printed with A plate letters, but without engraved "for" at the right. The "for" is written in. This variety is unlisted in the traditional Criswell reference. The standard design for Type 10. At center, seated Liberty gestures toward the title as she gazes at the eagle beside her. She leans on a shield showing the Confederate flag. Commerce, with garments blowing in the breeze, is at lower left. She is shown with commercial goods and an anchor. Serial number 36101. This is a beautiful, vibrant note with complete margins all around. Noted is the penciled "11" at back upper right corner for pedigree purposes. This is another prize for the specialist.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
