    Description

Whitman Confederate Currency Display Card T71.
This is one card out of a complete set of Confederate currency informational display cards that was published by Whitman Publishing (copyright W.P.C in the back lower left corner) was back in 1963; this one shows an 1864 T-71 note. The back reads as follows: "From his headquarters in Canada where he had been sent 'for a special purpose,' Clay directed Bennett Young to make a now famous raid on St. Albans, Vermont. Young's band robbed three banks in town of over $200,000, and escaped back to Canada. An international furor developed between the United States and Canada which was not settled until 1865. The United States offered a $25,000 reward for Clay, but he escaped capture until the end of the War when he surrendered voluntarily at Macon, Georgia." The historical writings were compiled by Ben Douglas and Brent Hughes; that's quite a scholarly old school team.
