    Description

    T68 $10 1864 PF-44 Cr. 552 Sheet of Eight Notes.
It is believed that a number of partial and complete sheets of Confederate currency were liberated by Union forces who sacked the city of Columbia, SC (where all of the Confederate printers had been evacuated to from Richmond in May, 1862) on February 17-20, 1865. Most of the sheets seen are from Series 10, the last series printed. This sheet has several interesting markings including a complete red Treasury Department stamp in the lower left corner of the face that was used to record that a sheet or group of sheets had been received and inspected, an annotation in the right face selvage: "Frame" in black ink and "Cooper" in red ink, and "Bagnall Jr." in blue ink on the back selvage. The names probably belong to pressmen or men charged with maintaining the lithographic stones used to print the notes. The three names, interestingly, are in the same three colors used to print these notes.

PCGS grades this neat piece of history Apparent Very Choice New 64 due to minor mounting remnants on the back selvage which have no effect on this sheet's desirability.
