    T69 $5 1864.
    The $20 has an inscription penned on the back, "S.H. Johnson Petersburg, Vir Sept 15, 1864." During the Siege of Petersburg the "Beefsteak Raid" took place from September 14th to 17th, 1864. Confederate Major General Wade Hampton led 3000 men on a 100 mile calvary ride behind Federal lines to capture over 2000 head of cattle belonging to the Army of the Potomac. Several of these Confederate soldiers were described as "certified Texas cattle thieves." Abraham Lincoln called the raid, "the slickest piece of cattle stealing" he ever heard of. All three notes grade Fine with the $5 and $10 having matching right edge pieces missing. (Total: 3 notes)
