DescriptionT51 $20 1862 with March 1864 Trans-Mississippi Stamp.
Bright for the grade, this Confederate $20 displays a red round Trans-Mississippi reissue rubber stamp. Notes were reissued by act of the Confederate Congress and were stamped for use west of the Mississippi River, which by this time was controlled by the Union Army therefore making it difficult for the Confederacy to transport "new" currency across the area. The stamp reads, "MARCH 1864, Accepted as a Note Issued under Act of Congress of March 23, 1863." The March 1864 stamps are scarcer than those dated February 1864. A press in Huntsville, TX, purchased for $10, was used to revalidate the notes. Very Fine, HOC.
