DescriptionT45 $1 1862 PF-1 Cr 342A.
Some interesting choices were made by Blanton Duncan on this note design. The shield on the left apparently originated from art created for either Argentina or Uruguay, which both use the sun face in their national emblems. More importantly he unilaterally decided to upgrade the security on both the $1 and $2 notes from this series by adding a green protector. The Department of the Treasury took issue with this and refused to pay for the extra work. Duncan immediately removed the protectors but created two varieties in the process. PCGS grades this note Extremely Fine 40PPQ.
