This appealing two-color note is dated Dec. 18, 1862, with the "186" of the date having been printed, and is the scroll 2 variety. The central vignette depicts slaves hoeing in a field. States rights advocate John C. Calhoun's portrait appears at the lower left. These notes paid annual interest of 7.3%- double that of the Montgomery and Richmond First Series issues. A small piece is missing from the upper left corner. Choice Crisp Uncirculated.
