T41 $100 1862 PF-27 Cr. 322A. Issued at Monroe, LA.
PCGS assigned a grade of Apparent Extremely Fine 40 to this note, with staining and edge damage listed as the reasons for the apparent grade. Although this note is not a thing of beauty, it does possess several key attributes that certainly add to its desirability. The note is printed on "J. Whatman 1862" watermarked paper and the entire watermark appears to be visible, although the staining has made it difficult to view the entire watermark. Even more important is the fact this note was issued at Monroe, LA as evidenced by the handwritten notation on the back dated April 17th 1863. Our estimate may prove conservative, as the other example we offered from Monroe, a Very Fine on plain paper, hammered for $1610 in our 2008 Long Beach sale. A very interesting and collectible Confederate note.
