DescriptionT40 $100 1862.
A note we knew had an interesting story and further research tells us that this C-note has a penned received statement on the back and a penned cancelled statement on the face with both sides being signed by A(thony) J. Guirot, A(ssistant) T(reasurer) C(onfederate) S(tates). He operated out of New Orleans at first, then Jackson, Mississippi, and later Mobile, Alabama as the fortunes (or misfortunes, if you like) of the war caused him to move around. This Fine example has edge tears and an internal tear that has a contemporary repair. The repair has partially failed over the years and it has left behind an adhesive residue spot.
