DescriptionManuscript Endorsement "Jas. T. Peyton" T40 $100 1862 PF-1 Cr. 298.
Major and quartermaster Jas. T. Peyton issued this note on March 10, 1863. This is the first Peyton issued note that we have offered. Fricke lists him as a R15, one known. The current example becomes just the second documented as the Fricke plate note is twenty serial numbers removed. Peyton served in Tennessee at several posts, and this $100 is dated during his time while stationed at Shelbyville. He would later find himself in Atlanta, and from there he would go to Macon. He was captured there on April 20, 1865. Peyton is covered in detail on pages 579-581 in Confederate Quartermasters, Commissaries, and Agents by Michael McNeil. PMG About Uncirculated 55 EPQ.
