    Description

    Manuscript Endorsement "Benjamin Bloomfield" T39 $100 1862 PF-13 Cr. 294.
An attractive PMG Very Fine 30 Trans-Mississippi note carrying the final day for T39 examples, August 15, 1862. The back reveals that it was issued by Major Benjamin Bloomfield in Houston on March 3, 1863. Both sides are plated on page 18 of Confederate Issuers of Train and Hoer Notes by Michael McNeil. Bloomfield served at first in Virginia with a period of time spent under the command of General Robert E. Lee. Later, he followed General J.B. Magruder to Houston, Texas after the Seven Days Battle of June 25 to July 1, 1862. Bloomfield expertly performed the duties of quartermaster no matter where he was stationed. It is said that he literally wrote the Quartermaster Manual for the Confederate Government.
