DescriptionCounterfeit CT41/316 $100 1862.
This is a two color lithographic plate letter X counterfeit. One diagnostic of this counterfeit is that the highest bird in the central vignette is much more distinct than on genuine notes of this type. This example has printed signatures and date plus the the serial numbers are hand-written in red ink. There is also a bogus Jackson, Mississippi stamp on the back. This counterfeit was caught during the war and it was pen cancelled with a large "X" plus some other ink got on the note during the process. Rarity 6, estimated 17 - 32 to exist, see Counterfeit Confederate Currency by George B. Tremmel. Very Fine-Extremely Fine.
