Description

Counterfeit 1862 $100, CT-41/316, Choice Crisp Uncirculated. This is a two color lithographic plate letter X counterfeit. This note is as pristine as the night it came off the counterfeiter's clandestine printing press. One diagnostic of this counterfeit is that the highest bird in the central vignette is much more distinct than on genuine notes of this type. This example has printed signatures and date, while the serial numbers are written in brown ink. Rarity 7, estimated 26 - 50 to exist, see Counterfeit Currency of the Confederate States of America, by George R. Tremmel.
