    Description

    T12 $5 1861 PF-1 Cr. 49.
Jules Manouvrier, a small New Orleans-based lithographer was chosen by the Confederate Department of the Treasury to print $5s and $10s. His simple design for the $5 holds the distinction of being the only CSA Treasury Note to have no vignettes of any kind and the first to have a printed back. Due to improper shipping, the first shipment of $10s was tampered with, causing the Treasury to withdraw the $10s from circulation (in fact we have no idea what they looked like) and cancel Manouvrier's contract. PCGS grades this example Apparent Very Fine 20 due to a small, well-hidden repaired edge tear at bottom left of center.
