Brightly Bronzed Comment-Free $10 Compound Interest Treasury Note
Fr. 190b $10 1864 Compound Interest Treasury Note PMG Very Fine
Compound Interest notes were issued to help finance the Civil War and were redeemed for their face value, plus accrued interest after being held for three years. To aid in their identification, each received a bronze surcharge stating that it was a COMPOUND INTEREST / TREASURY NOTE / 10. This example carries no comments, which is not typical for the issue. The all important bronzing has retained its color.
