Choice March 4, 1773 Large Format Ashby 3 Pounds Note

Virginia March 4, 1773 3 Pounds Ashby Note Fr. VA-69 PCGS Very Fine 35PPQ.
This is a very distinctive Virginia note series and type. Printed in London from the copper plate engraved by Henry Ashby on fine watermarked paper, with the imprint "Ashby fc London" horizontally at left. A uniface note with intricate indenting scrollwork at the left and Virginia Arms at the top. Signed by Peyton Randolph and John Blair, countersigned on the blank back by Robert Carter Nicholas. This is a nicely balanced example with lovely natural paper, and it is perfect for a type collection. Superior to the Newman Collection example we sold in April 2015 for $1,880.
    From the Hunter Collection.
