    Description

Virginia October 20, 1777 Uncut Strip of $6-$4-$8-$5 Notes Fr. VA-128-126-129-127. PCGS Very Fine 35 Apparent.
An extremely rare vertical multiple strip and partial uncut sheet. The left, top and bottom have wide margins, extremely so at the top and bottom. The complete sheet is double the size. The four-note panes were printed on opposite sides of the sheet; the adjacent pane would have had the blank side facing up. (See the Boyd Collection example, Ford Part VI, lot 569.) Uniface and printed on thick paper. Each denomination shows the Virginia trampling Tyranny vignette. The notes are all numbered and signed by Dickson and Wray. Noted with Stains; Small Edge Splits." Mottled throughout, but more pronounced on the back. An important illustration of the sheeting structure of this issue, and this multiple is cited in the Newman sheet appendix on page 462 of the 5th edition.

Truth Seeker: The Life of Eric P. Newman (softcover)
A powerful and intimidating dealer of the 1960s, backed by important colleagues, was accused of selling fraudulent gold coins and ingots to unsuspecting numismatists. Who would go up against a man like that and, over the course of decades, prove the fraud? Who would expose a widely respected scholar as a thief, then doggedly pursue recovery of coins that the scholar had stolen from an embarrassed numismatic organization, all over the objections of influential collectors who had bought coins with clouded titles? Eric P. Newman would - and did. Reserve your copy today.
