Virginia October 16, 1780 (For Clothing the Army) $400 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 20.
A historic Virginia Patriotic theme paper currency note issued during the American Revolutionary War. Its central text reads, in part: "An Act for the more effectual and Speedy Clothing the Army." All notes on this issue are extremely rare and lacking in most Virginia paper money collections. Noted on the holder: Apparent, Major Restorations, Backed, Design and Signatures Redrawn. This note has indeed been backed for preservation with archival fiber paper. Signers include: B. Webb, J. Hopkins and James Turner. Only 1,500 notes of these thin rice paper notes were printed and they would quickly deteriorate in circulation. This example appears well centered within four large margins and represents the grade very nicely.
