    Virginia May 28, 1785 £1696.10s/£1.13s.10d Very Fine.
    This rare financial instrument is unlisted in either Anderson or Newman. This receipt would have enabled one Newman Brockenbrough to receive £1.13s.10d specie before December 1, 1790 for his previous paper money deposit to the Commonwealth. We have auctioned only one other example of this receipt. It had serial number 1863 and graded VF-XF with a few edge repairs. It realized $2070 in April 2006. The current offering has serial number 1862. It has a small hole at upper left, a missing upper right corner, and several edge tears with the longest being approximately one inch.
