    Description

    Virginia March 4, 1773 £2 PMG Very Fine 25.
This choice-grade bill is from the first series of Ashby-engraved large format notes; they were printed uniface on watermarked paper from copper plates. The series date is penned within the engraved obligation text. Signed by Peyton Randolph and John Blair. The left border has a wavy indent as issued. Their large size made folding them immediately a necessity upon entering circulation. Very Fine is high grade for an Ashby bill. PMG notes Minor Ink Burn. These always sell for four-figure prices, with or without problems. A lovely note.
