Virginia July 17, 1775 £5 PCGS Apparent Very Fine 25.
We have not offered an example of this note in nearly five years. Most denominations from this issue come in both large and small sizes. The £5 is the sole denomination that comes in just large size only. Measurements for this note are approximately 6.5 by 4.75 inches. This was the highest denomination for the July 1775 issue and it had the lowest printing at a mere 3,294 notes. Large format notes of this issue are usually encountered in tatters, but this example escapes much of that. The Apparent grade is for minor edge tears and a repair at right end. This 7mm repair is nicely done.
